Camera Plaque

I have a lot of plain wooden plaques and wooden DIY items that I have been collecting over time. It is sad really the things I collect and just let sit because I am scared to try something and for it to fail.
So, I  gathered up my nerve, busted out a 7x9 rounded edge wooden plaque and painted it my favorite navy blue. Then I hit blogs and Pinterest because I remember seeing a camera board thing that I wanted to make. Well actually I just wanted to know what the camera design was. Anyhoo, after much searching, I finally found it! Yikes why didn't I pin that thing! It was the Snap Happy Camera design in the Silhouette Store.
So I cut that out of some of my vinyl, and placed the negative part of the image on the board and painted a lovely grey color over it. After I took off the vinyl I oohhed and ahhhed for a good minute at it's perfection! I did not even have to do any touch up work! Whoo hoo go me!
Now I just have to find a place to hang the thing! Maybe this is why I don't use those things I have been collecting....

New windows!

Whew! It has been busy on the project front here! On Wednesday, we got our new Glass Block Windows put in the basement. I love them! They have these neat little vents that can be opened and I can air out the basement! I know that I will be doing that a ton since it is still a little musty down there from all the flooding. I am so looking forward to the projects we get to start on in the basement to finally get it refinished and ready to live in! Yay for new windows!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Just a quick post to wish my Dad a very Happy 50th Birthday! Hope it is great and your day is filled with Blessings!

God Bless America Canvas Art

Okay so I know I am a little late for the 4th of July, but there is never a wrong time to celebrate America! So in honor of our birth, freedom, and our troops I created a God Bless America Canvas inspired by the Slhouette Blog. I used all supplies I had on hand, so does that make this a free project? :)

First I grabbed a 10x10 canvas, and cut out a chevron stripe with my Silhouette Cameo to use as the red background. Let dry. Then I cut out the United States shape, I got it as a free shape of the week but it is totally worth the .99 since I have used it on other projects you will see soon! I so love the detail of this shape! Then I sponged a antique white color 3 or 4 times with the negative part of the shape in the center of the canvas. I am going to use the positive part for something else fun. Then I free handed a heart and sponged a lovely navy color on the USA shape.

After I was done I just kind of stared at it because it was just too clean for me. So I grabbed my distress inks and added a antique brown wash over the canvas to age and distress it a bit. That mad eit all better!

I also felt it was missing something else and I knew it had to be text or words. So I went to my computer and typed up Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, God Bless America in a lovely typewriter font. I built up the layers, distressed it and added the text to the canvas with some foam adhesive and ta-da I was done!

Now I just have to find a place to put it!

New Dining Room Floor!

Okay so this falls under DYI Love right? I mean we did buy the supplies and did all the work. :)

This past weekend Secret Agent Man (aka: the husband), some family friends, and I put in a new floor and I love it! You see we had very nasty brown carpet in there before, and it was time for it to go! So earlier in the week I started pulling it up, and much to my surprise I found another layer of carpet glued to the concrete below it! Yikes! It took hours to get everything up and my allergies were going haywire once I was done! YUCK!

We also replaced the trim and are ready to get a new sliding glass door as well! Only down fall.... it shows every single foot print! So next time you come over friends be prepared to remove the shoes!

Now that this is all done, I noticed that the table so does not match. That means we get to go shopping for a new one right?

Heart Mixed Media Goodness!

I love mixed media art!  I love to have so many different types and pieces of art all in one place. I also love to get messy!

A while ago I decided that I wanted 8x8, 10x10 or 12x12 canvases with different themes to place around the house for that season or the month. I love watching Donna Downey or Christy Tomlinson make the most amazing creations in their studio, so I decided to try it myself.

First up, Valentines Day. Love me some hearts. So I went shopping and took a bunch of my already on hand supplies and went crazy. I ended up with supplies all over the dining room table as well as paint and glue all over the place. Even Milkshake, the rotten cat, got in on the fun and ended up slightly pink! It was a lot of layering work, and dry time in between, but totally worth the effort!

I was super pleased with the results, and kind of bummed February is so far away! Now I just need to remember to get it out next year!
